Epaderm Ointment has been developed by dermatologists specifically for patients with dry skin. It was first developed and used by the Dermatology Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In a personal communication from one of the Consultant Dermatologists based within the Department, it states that”(Epaderm Ointment) very rarely indeed produces any adverse allergic or other reactions”.

Epaderm Ointment is a 3-in-1 emollient, bath additive, and skin cleanser for all dry skin conditions including eczema & psoriasis.

It provides a complete emollient therapy in one product.

There is no need for other products making it easy to use and more cost effective.
– suitable for all ages, including babies
– it is ideal for use in wet or dry wrapping
– it provides an effective film barrier which aids moisture retention within the skin and is long lasting
– it is malleable and easy to apply
– it is unlikely to cause skin sensitisation
– it contains no fragrances, colourings, or additives
– it offers the three stages of complete emollient therapy

How should Epaderm Ointment be used in wet and dry wrapping?

Epaderm Ointment should be applied liberally to the skin before using Tubifast Garments or Tubifast Bandages. The ointment should be applied thickly (thick enough that you could write your name in the ointment). The
wet/dry garments are then placed on top.

Chubby Bee balm can be applied underneath the Epaderm to gain the healing effects of the balm alternatively the chubby bee balms can be used alone under the tubifast garments if the user wants an all-natural application.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as an emollient?

Epaderm Ointment should be applied to the skin as often as required.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as a bath additive?

Epaderm Ointment should be melted in a suitable container of hot water and then shaken to mix. Before adding to the bath, it is important to ensure that Epaderm Ointment has cooled sufficiently. Care should be taken as Epaderm Ointment will make the bath surface slippery. After bathing, the skin should be gently patted dry with a clean towel.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as a skin cleanser?

Epaderm Ointment should be used as required when washing or in the shower.

How should Epaderm Ointment be stored?

Epaderm Ointment should be stored below 25ºC in a dry place.

Ointments are made from either mineral oils, like paraffin and petroleum jelly, or fats. They don’t contain any water. They are thicker than eczema cream and lotion. The drier your skin the greasier the treatment should be. If you hold a tub outside down, an ointment won’t fall out.

The main property of ointments is that they help retain water in the skin. So it is ideal to use on very dry skin. Also on areas of thicker skin, like on the arms and legs.

Their greasiness means that they are not popular with everyone. They can be a bit messy, and make clothing greasy. This makes them a better choice to use at night.

One advantage of them is that they don’t contain any preservatives. This is because they don’t have any water in them. Creams and lotions do contain preservatives. The water in these can make the product go off. The preservatives may cause a reaction to the skin.
